Gratitude and Mindfulness

Part of cultivating mindfulness in daily life includes attending to things, people, and actions for which we are grateful. As is the case with increasing mindfulness of other emotions, sensations and thoughts, increasing awareness of gratitude expands our choices about what action is the most skillful in any given moment. Often, skillful action around gratitude includes expressing this feeling to others. In fact, a series of recent studies (see below) show that expressing thanks is so powerful that it can positively effect the thanked person’s interactions with people other than the individual who gave the thanks! A beautiful example of the fact that simple actions, based on present moment awareness, can have far reaching effects.
